The Ram 1500 offers four powertrain options. The lineup starts with a 3.6-liter Pentastar® V6 with eTorque that generates 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque and is suitable for light-duty work.

Shoppers with higher performance needs can choose between two versions of the 3.0-liter Hurricane twin-turbo inline-six. The standard output variant generates a robust 420 horsepower and 469 pound-feet of torque, while the high-output variant levels up with a prodigious 540 horsepower and 521 pound-feet of torque.

Of course, many drivers still prefer the power delivery and sound of a traditional eight-cylinder truck engine. So, in response to customer demand, Ram recently brought back the 5.7-liter HEMI® V8 with eTorque, which generates 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque.

The Ram 1500 offers substantial capability, whether you're transporting work equipment or pulling a camper out of Springville for a weekend getaway.

The standard Pentastar V6 can tow up to 8,130 pounds, while models equipped with the High-Output Hurricane have a maximum available rating of 10,000 pounds. The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 is the next step up, able to pull a maximum of 11,320 pounds, while the standard-output Hurricane tops the lineup with an 11,610-pound rating when properly equipped.

These are the maximum available ratings for each engine and are offered for comparison purposes. Actual towing capacity depends on the particular configuration, so be sure to refer to your owner's manual and door jamb sticker for vehicle-specific ratings.

As with towing, payload ratings vary based on various factors, so you should always verify the rating for your specific truck before loading. That said, if you need a truck more for hauling than towing, the base engine may actually be a better fit, as it boasts the highest available payload rating of 2,360 pounds.

Models with the standard Hurricane engine can carry up to 1,930 pounds, depending on equipment, while HEMI V8 and High Output Hurricane models have max payload ratings of 1,650 pounds and 1,490 pounds, respectively.

Springville shoppers can choose between Quad Cab and Crew Cab configurations. The Quad Cab has smaller rear doors and a standard bed (6 feet, 4 inches). The Crew Cab is roomier, has four full-size doors, and can be paired with either the standard bed or a short bed (5 feet, 7 inches) if you want something a bit more maneuverable.

The Ram 1500 trim lineup offers several options for drivers who regularly venture beyond paved roads.

Warlock and BackCountry include off-road suspension tuning and a higher ride height, as well as all-terrain tires and an electronically locking rear differential.

The Ram 1500 Rebel gets Bilstein® performance-tuned shock absorbers, while also enjoying many of the premium amenities found in the Laramie trim. Finally, the Ram 1500 RHO takes that capability to the next level with a standard High-Output Hurricane engine and more specialized hardware like Bilstein Blackhawk e2 adaptive suspension and larger 35-inch all-terrain tires.

The Ram 1500 provides an impressive array of standard driver-assistance systems, including:

The Ram 1500 isn't recommended for fifth-wheel or gooseneck towing. These trailers place considerable weight directly over the rear axle, making a heavy-duty pickup a better choice.
